As part of our 6th Como un lugar Latin American Poetry Festival, we hosted a collective trilingual reading celebrating Anna Gréki (Algeria, 1931–1966): revolutionary poet, teacher, and anti-colonial activist, who died in childbirth at 35.
Long overlooked outside Algeria, Gréki's work has finally been gaining wider attention thanks to the magnificent English edition from Lost and Found (CUNY).
The evening featured readings in French, English, and Spanish by Carolina Dávila, Amelia Bande, Kat Beamon, Eliana Hernández-Pachón, Mike Soto, Janet Hendrickson, David Iaconangelo, Ezequiel Zaidenwerg-Dib, Carlos Andrés Baquero, Noa Mendoza, Maria Elisa Schmidt, Fátima Velez, Kathleen Ma, Carolina Medina, and Radhika Singh, with translations by Marine Cornuet (French → English) and Ezequiel Zaidenwerg-Dib (French → Spanish).
This event marked the launch of Problemas de Identidad our translation series dedicated to exploring translation as a shared, cross-lingual practice.
This event was supported by funds from the New York State Council on the Arts, Statewide Community Regrants Program (formerly the Decentralization program), and the New York State Legislature, and administered by Flushing Town Hall.
